One distinguishing factor about programs at Harleysville Learning Center is that children of different ages and abilities are not grouped together. Having separate classrooms for toddlers and two-year-olds, for example, means both groups learn and work at their own level and their own pace.
Infants
Infant care begins at 6 weeks of age. Attentive and loving staff read stories to the babies, sing, play music, and blow bubbles. Parents appreciate the separate sleeping room, which provides a quiet, tranquil place for sleeping, away from the active children.
Toddlers
Toddlers love activities and movement. Our toddlers are engaged in physical activities, music activities, as well as small muscle projects. They sing songs and review colors and shapes. As weather permits, they go outside to play as much as possible to play.
The Two's
Two-year-olds begin potty training, learning the calendar, and studying the weather every morning. This group can handle more structure than the toddler group. They love to explore and experiment with new and exciting language and physical development. Two's learn to “tell” what they want and how they “feel” in this classroom. There is monumental growth in learning about others in this room.
Pre-School
The pre-school program runs from 9 a.m. to noon daily. This is an extensive academic program led by a certified teacher. The pre-school program is broken into two groups:
Pre-K
This group focuses on “readiness activities,” meaning they are getting ready for what is to come in later schooling. In addition to socialization, children begin alphabet recognition and practicing small motor control skills, such as holding crayons and pencils correctly. Self-actualization, discovery, and cooperation is practiced daily. The staff consistently encourages active learning with an inquisitive mind.
Kindergarten
This class is designed to help prepare your child for first grade. Throughout the year, the program will focus on three major areas to help develop and foster your child's basic concepts, attitudes, skills, and the confidence necessary to promote life long learning. The three major areas are mathematics, language arts, and basic skills.
After School Program
Harleysville Learning Center provides before and after school programs for school age children. Direct bussing is available to and from Oak Ridge Elementary and Lower Salford Elementary. Students receive a snack and supervised homework time. They can also play games inside or go outside to play. Hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Camp Wonderfun (summer day camp)
During the summer, children ages 3 through 10 have the option to sign up for Camp Wonderfun, the summer day camp program. Children engage in fun-filled activities such as swimming, sports, arts & crafts, computers, and field trips. Read more about Camp Wonderfun.
